P r o j e c t   L a n a k i l a     T H E   S M O K E   B O X   E X T E N S I O N


    I wanted to use polypropylene drain pipe for the smoke box extension but couldn't find a short piece anywhere and was too cheap to by a full length 2 inch pipe.

    I lucked out one day and got some scraps from one of my brother in laws projects,,, but they were abs (pictured above). I don't recommend abs pipe, it is thick and hard to coax into the right dimension. As you can see in the picture above, I had to cut out a section of the pipe to match the circumference of the rest of the smoke box on the Bachmann.


    After a few dry runs with a pipe clamp to hold it in shape and together I had the finished piece above.

    After adding boilerplates and a coat of primer some imperfections in the joint show up.

    Another application of bondo followed by a second coat of primer, and I was ready for the finish coat.
